Like the branches of a strong tree, the Graham family has grown across generations and geographies — rooted in shared history, strengthened by enduring values, and extended through the lives we continue to build today.
Our roots ground us in the stories, sacrifices, and legacy of those who came before us. Our branches stretch outward, connecting relatives near and far, each one representing a unique path and journey. And like the leaves, every family member adds life, color, and richness to the whole.
No matter how far we grow, we are always connected at the root.
The Graham Family Story
Our family story begins in Lumberton, North Carolina, where John and Sarah Livingston lovingly raised their eleven children. From this strong foundation grew a legacy of resilience, faith, and determination that continues to inspire generations today.
On August 23, 1884, John and Sarah welcomed a son named Thomas, also known as Luke, in Wagram, North Carolina. As a young man, Luke fathered a daughter, Rose Allbrook. In his twenties, he made a life-changing decision to leave Wagram in search of new opportunities. He traveled south to Florida, settling in Overtown, Miami, where he built a new life. It was during this time that he changed his surname from Livingston to Graham, becoming known as Thomas Graham.
In Miami, Thomas worked as a day laborer and soon met Elizabeth Butler, a young woman with her own story of courage and ambition. Elizabeth was born on August 6, 1890, in Nassau, Bahamas, to William and Henrietta Hield Butler. She grew up alongside four brothers and two sisters before venturing to Miami in pursuit of opportunity and a brighter future.
In 1905, Thomas and Elizabeth were married, forming a union rooted in love and perseverance. Together, they built a family and were blessed with ten children:

While their lives were rich with love and family, they were also marked by profound loss. In 1932, tragedy struck when their son George, just 14 years old, was killed by a stray bullet on Halloween night while standing in the front yard of the family home. The loss deeply affected the entire family.
Soon after, Elizabeth experienced health complications following the birth of her tenth child and passed away on August 23, 1933. Left as a widower with nine children, Thomas faced an immense challenge. However, he remained steadfast in his determination to keep his family together. With help and support from Elizabeth’s sister, Christina Butler Williams — lovingly known as Aunt Tana — the children were cared for and surrounded by family love.
In 1940, the family suffered another heartbreaking loss when their son Samuel died at the age of 13 after falling from the back of a motorbike.
Through these trials, Thomas remained a deeply faithful man. His children often remembered him on his knees in prayer, asking God to bless not only his children but generations to come. His strength, faith, and devotion carried the family through their darkest times.
Over the years, Thomas watched his children grow, build families of their own, and continue the legacy he and Elizabeth had begun. On July 13, 1959, Thomas Graham peacefully passed away, leaving behind a powerful heritage rooted in love, faith, and perseverance.
Today, the Graham family spans six generations across the country. Though spread far and wide, the family remains closely connected, gathering every two to three years for reunions — a cherished tradition established decades ago by the elders to honor their shared history and enduring bond.
